Description
EDWARDIAN ENGLISH STERLING SILVER AND TORTOISE SHELL JEWEL BOX, Neoclassical-style oval form with inlaid shell lid, raised on four cabriole legs with rosette knees, interior with probably original blue velvet lining. Rim flange impressed with "WC" maker's mark for William Comyns & Sons of London and three hallmarks of a lion passant for sterling fineness, a leopard's head city mark, and an "l" date mark for 1906, edge of lid also impressed with maker's mark, lion passant, and date mark. Circa 1906. 2" HOA, 4 1/2" x 3" OA rim.
Condition
Good to very good overall condition with some wear, surface scratches, and nicks, a few dents including to side at terminals of both front legs, label adhered to back side edge of base.Â
