East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A lovely pair of glass and amethyst snuff jars, each with a painted scene on the interior of the bottle! The rounded bottle has relief molded maskettes in red and hand painted serene landscapes on the interior of the vessel on both sides. The bone spatula is attached to the pink glass stopper. The other jar is a double calabash shape with an amethyst cabochon lid and petite bone spatula stick. The interior is painted with 3 figures setting off fireworks- their hands clasped over their ears. The artisans painted these jars by inserting their brushes inside the mouth and carefully maneuvering each stroke while painting backwards! Size (wider jar): 1.75" W x 2.25" H (4.4 cm x 5.7 cm)
