East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. A lovely pottery incense burner vessel known as a "boshanlu" or "hill censer" with a conical mold made lid in the form of mountains. The body has a flat, flared foot with a thick stem that supports a rounded bowl with a rim lip for the lid to rest flush on. The lid is in three-dimensional relief crag cliffs with piercings for the incense smoke to filter through. The surfaces of lid and body are glazed with a green glaze with areas of silvery iridescence. Size: 4" Diameter x 7" H (10.2 cm x 17.8 cm)

Lid repaired and visible break lines on exterior with chips and abrasions. Body has a rim chip and abrasions to bowl exterior and base. Silvery iridescence on glaze.
