Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A wonderful leaded bronze handle exhibiting a sweeping, arched form, and a pair of up-turned, bird-head terminals, resembling ducks or swans. Each elegant avian displays a rounded crest, annular eyes, and an elongated beak, as the faceted handle is further adorned by 3 raised horizontal bands with a triangular, downward-pointing embellishment on each side. An annular loop for suspension sits at the top of the arch. Size: 12.8" L x 1.5" W x 7.3" H (32.5 cm x 3.8 cm x 18.5 cm)
