Item Details
Description
Eastern Europe, German Empire, Prussia, circa 1899s. Important Presentation saber for the Prussian Field Artillery Officer Regiment No.62 (Established March 25th of 1899, East Frisian, stationed in Oldenburg, Osnabruck as a member of the 10th army corps) At a Pivotal time in German Prussian history 1899 was only just after the German Empire was established in 1871. The German Empire was building strength and the creation of the additional regiments was a key factor in their plans. Little did the citizens of Prussia who comprised 3/4 of German Empires population know that their newly formed Empire would see it's demise in the coming Great War ending in their bitter defeat 1918.

Fine handle in gilt brass with Lion Head Pommel, brass wire wrap to ray skin grip, carved guard with interlooping patterns and foliage, downturned quillion with orb end, saber guard with armorial plaque to one side and the crossed cannon of the artillery regiment to the other. Blade single-edged shallow wide fuller with slight curve and fantastically etched panels of the Solingen armoury around a blackened panel reading "Ohfries. Feld Art. Regt. No62." to the reverse an off-center shallow fuller and vibrantly etched panel with Solingen sides and to the center an incredible scene of the Prussian officers artillery regiment, wheeled cannons & artillery, and soldiers riding to battle. Scabbard in painted black steel with belt loop and squared hook.
35 1/4" L, blade 29 1/2" L
