French 19C Antique Brass Porcupine Order Snuff Box

Item Details

Description

An antique 19th Century French mixed media lidded snuff box. Brass with enamel and other elements. An elegant mantle or cabinet piece decorated with elaborate design to lid inspired by the medieval French knightly Order of the Porcupine (suppressed circa 1500 by King Louis XII). Featuring gilt scrolling and flourish forms in a hexagonal pattern with central porcupine ejecting quills, under a crown of France image. No apparent signature.

Dimensions: 1.25 X 3.25 X 3.25 in.

Condition: Good overall condition having normal age related surface wear, with slight indentation to lid. Estate fresh to the market.
