Description
A very fine Friendship quilt, circa 1850, with many signatures, some with verses and dates which range from 1849-1851, probably Westchester County NY. One such hand written ink verse reads "Miss Jameson when this block you do view, remember your aunt who pieced it for you / M. xxxx (illegible) / Somers March 4th 1850", and another with stamped signature "Thaddeus Crane" below image of 2 love birds (Thaddeus Crane moved to Somers NY, Westchester County with his brother Gerard in 1823). Some light discoloration on white cotton fabric, some of the ink signatures faded, but overall very good condition - see photos for examples of signatures and verses. Measures 90" X 90". Provenance: According to consignor, this quilt was found in an old Bergan Co. NJ. estate.
