Description
William B. Durgin Gilded Age Regence Revival seven piece tea and coffee service, retailed by Bailey, Banks and Biddle of Philadelphia, circa 1900, comprising a hot water kettle and stand, coffeepot, teapot, creamer, covered sugar and waste bowl on matching sterling tray, fully marked, each piece in the French Regence style with decoration in the manner of Jean Berain the elder (French, 1637-1711), and each engraved with Florentine monogram JMB, each piece struck with the crowned initial "D" for Durgin, "Bailey Banks and Biddle" pattern number "8170" and "Sterling" struck to each.

Weight: 326.33 ozt.; 13" H (hot water kettle, handle up); 32" W x 19" D (the tray, including handles).

Note: The William B. Durgin Company (1853 - 1924) was a noted American sterling silver manufacturer based in Concord, New Hampshire, and one of the largest flatware and hollowware manufacturers in the United States. Over the period of 1905-1924, it was merged into the Gorham Manufacturing Company.
