Three Maquettes for Mt. Rushmore, and Photos. Three cast maquettes of Gutzon Borghlun's carvings of the Presidents for Mt. Rushmore: two of Lincoln, of these, one cast casein wax, the other cast buff clay; the third a cast buff clay cast of Theordore Roosevelt. Plus a colored photo of the site of Mt. Rushmore in 1927, prior to carving; a colored photo of the same site in 1941, with carving still in progress, and two later reprints of photos of carving progress, presented by Borghlun to the Clerk. The maquettes not marked. The two colored photos by Rise Studos, so marked, lower right on mat boards. The two later photographs inscribed indistinctly. Circa 1928. {Approximate dimensions: the maquettes each 4 3/4 inches long.; the largest photographs 14 3/4 x 17 3/4 inches.}. Presented to the Clerk of the Works. Condition: The maquettes are basically in very good condition. The casein example with some areas of roughness to Lincoln's nose and chin; the others, also with shallow, minor areas of loss. The mats to the large photos with creased corners, small tear, the photos themselves in good condtion. The later reprinted photos in good order.
