A pair of George IV silver entrée dishes and covers
Benjamin Smith, London 1825
Each shaped-rectangular, the gadroon rim with acanthus shell corners and anthemion embellishments, the covers with bayonet fastening handles, embellished with acanthus and shell issuing from a lobed base, the covers with engraved armorial on either side and inside of bases crested for James Heywood MARKLAND (1788-1864) and his wife Charlotte FREELING (1795-1861), underside of bases initialled 'B', length 32.3cm, weight 148oz.

This is the complete armorial for James Heywood MARKLAND (1788-1864) and his wife Charlotte FREELING (1795-1861) of Middlesex, the daughter of Sir Francis FREELING (1764-1836) 1st Baronet of Bristol and then London where he was Secretary of the General Post Office by Jane KARSTADT (born 1762).
They were married in 1821. James Heywood MARKLAND was born in Manchester the son of Robert MARKLAND a textile manufacturer in Manchester by Elizabeth HIBBERT. He was a lawyer first in Manchester and later in London.
He finally resided at Lansdowne Terrace, Bath.
