North Africa, Morocco to Algeria, Islamic / Tuareg Berber culture, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A pair of daggers- each with a decorative handle, sheath, and steel blades - one with brass and copper fittings, the other with leather. The longer dagger has a tapered, doubled edged blade with an etched handle, stippled linear motifs, and matching brass sheath inlaid with copper panels. The other knife has a slightly curved double-edged blade, the iron etched on one side the leather stamped and tooled with geometric shapes, as is the matching sheath with a spherical finial. While functional, ornate knives such as these were also part of ceremonial or formal dress and were proudly worn as decorative pieces. Size of brass knife w/ sheath: 15" L x 2" W (38.1 cm x 5.1 cm); 15.5" H (39.4 cm) on included custom stand; blade: 10.25" L x 1" W (26 cm x 2.5 cm)

Condition
Green patina on brass and dark toning, russet patina on iron blade of leather knife and dark toning to both blades. Minor surface wear and nicks as expected with age and use, but intact and very good condition. Sheaths are slightly stiff but blades fit in snugly.
