Warren Commission PSA Graded Photo, Oswald Handing Out Pro-Cuba Fliers

A black and white photograph, measuring 7" x 10", New York, dated September 27, 1964. An AP Wire Photo of two exhibits used by the Warren Commission, depicting the Fair Play for Cuba flyers distributed by Lee Harvey Oswald. With two examples of the handbill and a black and white image of Oswald passing them out. The caption reads in full: "CUBA HANDBILLS--This is one of Warren Commission's Exhibits, No. 2966A and 2966B, in report of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas Nov. 22, 1963. The commission said the handbills were samples of ones on which Lee Harvey Oswald had stamped his name and the name 'A.J. Hidell.' The picture was identified as showing Oswald distributing the handbills in New Orleans Aug. 16, 1963." PSA Slabbed and Graded Type III, measuring 9.75" x 13" overall. With minor edge and corner wear. Light scratches and indentations throughout. Light soiling throughout.

The Fair Play for Cuba Committee was an activist group set up in New York City by Robert Taber in April 1960 with the aim of providing grassroots support for the Cuban Revolution against the U.S. government. They opposed the Bay of Pigs invasion, any U.S. embargos on Cuba, and were sympathetic to the island country during the Cuban Missile Crisis. On August 9, Lee Harvey Oswald turned up in downtown New Orleans handing out pro-Castro leaflets. An FBI agent confronted Oswald, who told him that he was a member of the New Orleans branch of the Fair Play for Cuba Committee, which consisted of 35 members and was led by A. J. Hidell. In fact, Oswald was the branch's only member [Hidell was Oswald's alias], and it had never been chartered by the national organization.
