Gancedo is a painter of Leonese origin who lives in Barcelona. She is one of the only Spanish artists to have exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, whose collection also includes her work. Her artistic work, with a very singular style, is characterised by the diversity of expressive media - painting, drawing, engraving, ceramics, installations and interventions, among others - and by the incorporation of everyday elements that she integrates into her works, composing a creative universe that is as personal as it is universal and as simple as it is powerful.
Teresa Gancedo spent her childhood in Madrid until 1960, when she moved to Barcelona to study Fine Arts. In 1970 she won the Inglada Guillot International Drawing Prize, and in 1972 she held her first solo exhibition at the Sala Provincia in León, presented by the poet Antonio Gamoneda. Since then he has held numerous exhibitions of his work throughout Spain, and has participated in group exhibitions both in Spain and abroad, in Mexico, France, the United States, Sweden, Holland, Argentina and Uruguay. Particularly noteworthy is her participation in the group exhibition "New images from Spain", held at the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 1980. She is currently a lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Barcelona. She has also been awarded the Sant Jordi Drawing Prize (Barcelona, 1974) and the XIII International Joan Miró Design Prize (Lisbon, 1974).
