Description
Ca. 1368-1644 AD.
A stone head of Lohan presents a tranquil and meditative countenance, with a bald head and elongated ears that accentuate its serene expression. The downcast eyes and wrinkled forehead exude a sense of contemplation, while the full, closed lips and broad nose add a subtle touch of elegance to the sculpture. The rounded cheeks and fine lines around the face create a lifelike appearance. Lohan is a term used to refer to a Buddhist monk who has achieved a level of enlightenment and is regarded as a saint. In Chinese Buddhism, the Lohan are considered guardians of the Buddhist faith, and their depictions in art and sculpture are highly revered. This piece is mounted on a custom-made stand.
