Napoleonic Wars Infantry Saber, Belonged To Ensign Adolf Von Hodenberg (1795-1813) L 36'' | Engraved on the backstrap "Adolf von Hodenberg", "+ 3 Dec. 1813 bei Büchen". A memorial tablet at St. Marien's Church, Lower Saxony, Germany, indicates Ensign Hodenberg died of wounds received during skirmishes around Büchen, 1813. Adolf von Hodenberg was one of three brothers killed during the Napoleonic Wars. Georg von Hodenberg, Lieutenant ,1st Line Battalion King's German Legion, and Lieutenant Friedrich von Hodenberg, both of which died of wounds received at the Battle of Talavera, Spain, 1809. (Wellington's Men Remembered Volume 2: A Register of Memorials to Soldiers).Sword having a copper wire wrapped leather grip with brass guard and pommel. Half blued steel curved blade with gilt etchings of crossed arms, floral arrangements and a sunburst. Included it's leather scabbard with brass tip and throat.
Condition
Very good condition. Light scabbard wear to the blade. Cracking to the leather of the scabbard.
