Description
A Japanese color woodblock print on paper. The artwork depicts a man with a katana sword and butterflies. Presumably a Kabuki theater scene, Utagawa school. The Utagawa school was one of the main schools of ukiyo-e genre founded by Utagawa Toyoharu in 1840s. Kabuki is a classical form of Japanese theatre, mixing dramatic performance with traditional dance that originated during the early Edo period. White mat, wooden frame.
