"A World of My Own 2" is a painting created in 2022.
Victoria Makinde explains the inspiration behind the painting thus: Love they say is unconditional, real, strong; an intense feeling or deep affection which ought to be good, expressive, long, and lasting if truly real oh how beautiful could it have felt? My works are a symphony of the love I want for myself. Growing up as a child, I had an appalling experience of love by my parents which has a later effect on my orientation for love as an individual. For my parents, their love life was almost like a nightmare, something that should have never happened as my mother would say; “I should have never married him” maybe they weren't just meant to be or they couldn't just get along well with one another. The marriage was bedlam all through and we all took our sides of their shortcomings being their offspring. My parent's marriage made me understand what it felt like to marry the right person if at all one decides to marry having said mine is just a story out of thousands of many other similar stories around the world.
I tend to use colors mundane enough to represent love in my works, colors such as; Rose red, yellow, purple, and all other love-related colors. My works are more of a solace to my childhood experience of a marriage on the verge of forlorn. I, therefore, express myself through painting the opposite of the kind of love I grew up experiencing; the true meaning of love, and as it should be. The expressions of my subjects are quite docile yet compelling as to the human reaction to true love and encounters of the emotions that come after. Telling my stories through Art in this direction has helped in the gradual healing process from my childhood traumas “Therapy” and also a navigator into looking forward to the kind of life I want as an individual.

    Artist Statement
Women play a variety of significant roles in our society from their birth till the end of life. Even after playing all the roles and all the jobs timely in an efficient manner in modern society, she is weak because men are still the strongest gender in society. Even after lots of awareness programs, rules, and regulations in the society by the government, her life is more complicated than a man's. She has to take care of herself and family members as a daughter, granddaughter, sister, daughter-in-law, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, etc. By following such a big responsibility in the family, they are fully able to come out and do a job for a bright future of their own, family, and country. Women have considered the goddess in Indian society and even a lot of Afrikan gods are women from the ancient time however it is also true that they are not treated as goddesses.

They are being ill-treated for many years and used just as things to fulfill the wishes of men. Considering them as goddess is not enough to give them full women empowerment in society; however, it needs positive continuous effort and participation of both men and women to bring women empowerment. Women play a great role in everyone’s life without whom we cannot imagine the success of life. They are highly responsible for the successful continuation of life on this planet. Earlier they were considered as only wives and mothers who have to cook food, clean the home and take care of the whole family members alone. But, now the condition has improved a little bit, they have started taking part in many activities other than family and kids.

To truly love and appreciate the struggles of a woman, we must first understand the essence of a woman and believe that there’s no such thing as a superior gender. It is still an epiphany that no gender can be compared to that births life while many believe that god is a black woman, I strongly believe that a woman is the root of all human existence.
