Description
**Originally Listed At $1000**
Mark Daily (American, b. 1946). "The Rehearsal" oil on canvas, n.d. Signed on the lower left. A marvelous Mark Daily painting - titled "The Rehearsal" - in a gilded, museum-quality frame, featuring a conductor and a trio of musicians - a violinist, a clarinetist, and a guitarist - rehearsing together on stage. Daily's loose, impressionistic brushwork and masterful ability to create a powerful composition certainly manifest in this piece. An exceptional colorist, Daily strategically places each hue within the context of others to maximize their impact. In addition, his exceptional command of light draws our attention to each musician within the ensemble yet simultaneously unites them to convey that they play harmoniously as one. Furthermore, Daily captures both the physical and emotional nuances of this performance. Finally, his enthusiasm for their artform is palpable. In his words, "We figurative painters are so in love with life that what we see is constantly a thrill." Size of painting: 18" L x 18" W (45.7 cm x 45.7 cm) Size of frame: 25.625" L x 25.625" W (65.1 cm x 65.1 cm)
Born in Chicago, Mark Daily studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, but it wasn't until he discovered Nicolai Fechin's paintings and decided to move west to Taos, New Mexico that his artistic style truly took hold. Daily lived in Taos for 9 years, was inspired by the Taos Society of Artists as well as the undeniable beauty of New Mexico. He formed a strong community with fellow Taos artists Ned Jacob, William Sharer, and Buffalo Kaplinski. This group first showed in Taos and then moved to Denver where they became known as the Denver School. As Daily recalls, "we painted, partied, traveled, and showed together…it was rare to find an art group as large as ours and with our degree of interaction."
