John Paul Jones shooting a sailor who had attempted to strike his colors in an engagement, 1779, hand colored mezzotint, mounted to card, printed and published by Carrington Bowles, paper 13 5/8 x 10”, card 14 ¾ x 11”; The British Museum impression #1935,0522.1.7; An impression sold at Skinner auction Boston for $6150 on Oct. 30 th 2016, lot #461.
Condition
Card brittle with re-attached corners lower right and upper left, break on card leading into image near left subject’s head, discoloration from age, paper with some silver fish damage lower right, otherwise in good condition for a 244 year old print.
