Item Details
Description
This is an antique lot of three cased Civil War era daguerreotype images. The lot includes the following: ~Sixth Plate double portrait case featuring a husband and wife opposite their two daughters (presumably)
~Ninth Plate portrait of young woman
~Sixth Plate portrait of a Civil War Union soldier posing with his revolver. The plate is held in a case identifying the sitter as Hiram Van Buren of Rosendale, New York. We cannot definitively say that the portrait is original to the case with the identification. We did find a record of a Hiram Van Buren serving with 120th Regiment, New York Infantry. Organized at Kingston, N. Y., and mustered in August 22, 1862, Left State for Washington, D. C., August 24, 1862. Attached to Whipple's Brigade, Defences of Washington, D. C., to October, 1862. 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, 3rd Army Corps, Army of the Potomac, to December, 1862. 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, 3rd Army Corps, to March, 1864. 2nd Brigade, 4th Division, 2nd Army Corps, to May, 1864. 4th Brigade, 3rd Division, 2nd Army Corps, to July, 1864. 3rd Brigade, 3rd Division, 2nd Army Corps, to June, 1865.
