Jon Zahourek (American, b. 1940). Watercolor, n.d. Hand signed in pencil to left of raised left arm. A stunning watercolor by Jon Zahourek depicting a reclining nude woman with raised arms and legs bent at the knee in a graceful manner. Zahourek successfully conveys the sitter's humanity; notice how she turns her head and leans her forehead upon the curled fingers of her left hand while gazing downward as if in slumber or deep thought. All is delineated in sumptuous shades of strawberry, coral, peach, plum, and rose. Zahourek's passion for anatomy as well as his artistic process is palpable in this seductive composition. Zahourek himself has described his creative method as somewhat organic and dissociative. In his words, "Paintings and drawings and sculpture were all a surprise. In the 1960s, Jon Zahourek dropped out of college to become an artist. By way of Taos, New Mexico and later Denver, Colorado Zahourek was part of a thriving community of artists, exhibiting his work with prominent contemporaries including Ned Jacobs, Buffalo Kaplinski, George Carlson, and Fritz White. In the 1970s, Zahourek moved to New York to teach painting. He continued as an artist and educator, and eventually fueled his passion for anatomy into developing a system for teaching anatomy which has been used by more than 6,000 classrooms across the United States.

Hand signed in pencil to left of raised left arm. Set in a custom wooden frame while floating within a custom matte under glass. Artwork has not been examined outside the frame but appears to be in very nicecondition. Slight surface wear to the frame. Normal tears to gallery paper on verso that do not impact the painting. Wired for suspension and ready to display.
