Description
Late 2nd phase to early 3rd phase. 1100-1300 AD. This Puerto Rican example of an axe-spear form, not a weapon, such are status insignia, in this case, belonging to a regional chief, a Cacique or a high priest, a highest badge of rank. It is exceptional, very large, it has a massive bulbous, nearly round girth. The stone is a lightly speckled deep green, with two white cloud forms, a jade like stone. Excellent perfect condition, a museum candidate, one of the best and very largest of all Puerto Rican Celts. 13 1/4 inches long, 7.5" inches around at the widest point, 3.75" across, and 2.5" thick. Fine condition, acquired at Ponce, P.R., in 1981.From our octogenarian consignor source. His Taino obtained 52 to 34 years back. All Taino from him are guaranteed and will be identified as being from this source.
