Una delle opere più complete sulla telegrafia elettrica ed i suoi progressi negli anni '50 e '60, soprattutto nel campo delle linee sottomarine. T. Du Moncel (1821-84) fu uno dei più distinti elettrotecnici francesi del sec. XIX; le sue scoperte e le sue pubblicazioni, soprattutto nel campo dell'induzione e sulla disposizione delle pile in serie lo resero famoso.
