Description
The Beatles RIAA Gold Award Presented to Apple Records for "The Beatles" - This RIAA "floater" style gold award was presented to Apple Records "to commemorate the sale of more than 500,000 copies" of the 1968 self-titled album, The Beatles, also known as the "White Album". The album was the group's only double album, and had a plain white sleeve with no other graphic other than the band's name embossed, meant to be a direct contrast to the vivid artwork of the previous LP, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The White Album received mostly favorable reviews from critics with some even calling it one of the greatest albums of all time, and in 2019 was certified 24x platinum by the RIAA (over 24 million copies sold), becoming the fourth top-certified album of all time.
