Description

(Greenville, South Carolina/Catawba Valley, North Carolina, 20th / 21st century) Southern stoneware storage jar in the Edgefield, South Carolina style. The handsome and well potted alkaline glaze jar has David Drake's Silhouette iron slip decorated at one side along with two of Dave’s poems at left and right in kaolin slip. One reads, "I - made this jar all of cross if you don't repent, you will be lost May 3, 1862." The opposing side reads. " Great & noble jar hold sheep goat and bear May 13, 1859 Dave." Over the silhouette the piece is titled, in slip Great and Noble Potter ED : SC and below Sir David Drake. Under one handle is inscribed Bayne Make 1. Very good condition throughout.
