Howard & Davis "No. 4 Regulator" Banjo Clock
late 19th century
rosewood veneered case with grain painted doors and throat, brass 8-day time-only weight-driven movement with anchor escapement, movement signed "A. Howard (Albert Howard), D.P. Davis Boston," dial signed "Howard & Davis, Boston," penciled on back of dial "cleaned by D.P. Davis, July, 9, 1860, repaired by D.J. Blackwell 1926"

Albert Howard, a cousin of Edward Howard, went into partnership in Dec. 1858 as E. Howard & Company, in March of 1861 they formed a joint stock company called the E. Howard Clock & Watch Company, where Albert Howard was chosen as President and Edward as Superintendent & Treasurer. The factory was closed in May of 1863 and in October of the same year, Edward was able to reform the company with himself as President.

Condition
Very good overall condition, retains the original finish, no inpainting to the glasses, weight baffle replaced and hold down hardware missing, brass cover is loose from the bob, runs a short time and stops.
