TWO EARLY NEAPOLITAN FIGURES REPRESENTING MARY AND JOSEPH WITH WAX FIGURE OF BABY JESUS. 12 ½”. Mary with polychromed carved wooden shoulderhead, brown sculpted hair; 14” Joseph with polychromed terra cotta head, brown wavy hair, beard and moustache with detailed carving, enamel eyes; Mary and Joseph have cloth wrapped poseable armature body with carved wooden lower arms and legs, original garments; 3 ½” wax baby Jesus has painted features and mohair wig, resting in wax manger.
Commentary: Continental figures, circa late 1700s; Joseph has broken thumb and Mary has broken finger, otherwise very good condition, original finish and clothing; wax manger is newer.
