ORLANDO AGUDELO-BOTERO, COLUMBIAN (1946 - )
Orlando Agudelo-Botero also known as Orlando, AB, was born in Columbia in 1946. Since the age of three, throughout his childhood, Orlando Agudelo-Botero has sustained his artistic and philosophical dialog in powerful paintings and sculpture that reflect the artist's own personal development, intellectual curiosity and spiritual path.

Articulating a vision of humanity with dignity, Orlando's paintings give one an enlarged sense of life, both hear and hereafter. There is a quality of empowerment one feels when viewing his work that enriches and alters the spirit and it is that profound power that lies and the core of his art.

Beyond the lyrical appeal of his masterful balance of color and composition, Orlando's art also resounds with the profound element of fearlessness: the willingness of the artist to make that which is seemingly intangible, tangible to the human eye...giving form and value to our most personal feelings and ideals as human beings.

"My work is a vehicle for my own self-examination, discoveries and the establishment of new realities," says this painter and sculptor. "I struggle in each and every piece as I discover something about humanity and strive to communicate it."

Creating images drawn from his psyche, his deftly drawn forms, radiate an uncanny aura and sensual richness which appeal to our deepest level of consciousness. His recurring themes of personal growth, education, family, spirituality, his love of music as well as exploration of life, itself, attest to his belief in the educational and healing powers of art.

In 1988, Orlando A.B. was the recipient of the White House Hispanic Heritage Award for the Visual Arts, and he is a trustee of the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts.

Orlando A.B. has been exhibiting in one-man shows throughout the United States and South America for the past 30 years. Although a larger number of galleries may show the hand-worked original multiples (sizes of editions from a mere 30 to possibly 100), a much smaller number of galleries are able to secure the very rare unique original works for actual shows with the artist.
