A fantastic abstract expressionist painting on paper signed on bottom by American painter Cy Twombly and dated 1998. Provenance: This artwork was part of a seasoned art dealer’s personal collection. By trade this art dealer was a teacher, but in the 1970s he started collecting and selling art as a supplement income. This turned into a successful business, and he traveled the globe internationally with his son sourcing original artworks by famous modern and post-war artists, as well as Asian and African artifacts. The art dealer is now retired and lives outside of Detroit, Michigan.Cy Twombly (1928-2011) was a renowned abstract expressionist artist and become a prominent figure in the mid-1950s. His subject matter may seem simplified, but his line and colors were infused with energy, spirituality, and meaning. Twombly was in the same group of artists, such as Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns, yet he followed a more simplified form of abstraction compared to his contemporaries. He has had several museum exhibitions including an important at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1979, curated by David Whitney, Musee National d’Art Moderne, Tate Modern, and MoMA. In recent years, Twombly has fetched auction records up to $69 million.
