Description
Antique Chinese landscape painting, ink on silk canvas; very fine silk mounting;

Academic research on this painting indicates the name as Shi Yanjie (ca. 1596-after 1674 or later); Shi Yanjie, style name Ruizi, was a native of Shaoxing, Zhejiang. he was good at painting ink bamboos. Whether it was bamboo in the wind, in daylight, in rain, in dew, all of them are marvelous. He especially liked painting myriad rods or clusters of thin bamboos, either in a mountaintop of by a river port that are enveloped in mist and fog. People scrambled to buy his paintings.”

Translation of the inscription:
In the month of Sweet Flag (th fifth month) of the Jiyou year (1669) I painted this to entertain Oldster Hanweng. Shi Yanjie.” (Shi used this wording on many of his paintings.)
Seals: Shi Yanjie, Ruizi (Style name of Shi Yanjie)

Collector seal: Jin Erzhan (ca. 1840-1917)
About the collector: Jin Erzhan (ca. 1840-1917), style name Jishi. Jin was a native of Jianxing, Zhejiang. he was good at poetry, painting, a connoisseur and was also good at carving seals. He became sworn brothers with Wu Changshuo (1844-1927) and REN BONIAN (1840-1895). He was an early patron of the Xiling Seal Art Society. (The Seal Art Society is now a famous auction house in Hangzhou.)

This is an important painting worthy of conservation. Paintings by this artist have sold at the major auction houses.
