Description
Canadian or American. Late 18th - early 19th century. Iron. From a design standpoint most wagon or carriage jacks have interesting shapes but this hand forged example is superior to most. The form, line and sensitive variations of the loops are a delight to the eye. It has a long single action handle for lifting an adjustable sliding grip upright. Most jacks were made of wood or wood and iron. This all iron example is a rarity. Excellent condition. Featured in Primitives and Folk Art (Thuro, p.114, Plate b). From the Catherine Thuro Collection. 30.5"H x 9"W x 2"D.
