Description
Canadian. 1870s. Hardwood, cast iron, steel. 19th century tobbaco cutter in the form of a horse. Wooden handle is triple riveted to the horses tail. Mounted on a shield shaped hardwood block, in natural finish. The horse secured to the base with a cast metal post. While such cutters were used primariy for tobacco leaves for smoking tobacco, they also very effectively choped vegetables and could have many other applications. They were often made in decorative shapes like this one. Handle inscribed, "A.L.". Very good. Cloth added to base.
