Description
Canadian. Ca:1860. Hair, wire. glass beads. Frame is walnut or butternut. Mid-Victorian shadow box displaying a hair wreath made possibly as a lasting memorial of the deceased.. Constructed with a wire supporting frame covered with coiled and braided human hair and decorated with various shaped beads in red, green, yellow, blue, turqoise and white. The different hair colours indicate contributions from several persons, likely from one family. Mounted in a well made shadow box retaining its original varnish. Very good. From the Catherine Thuro Collection. 24"H x 23.5"W x 3.75"D.
