First edition, first printing, of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven," one of the most celebrated poems in American literature, as well as several other Poe poems, in two octavo volumes (Vol. I, Numbers I-VI in first bound volume; Vol. II, Numbers I-VI in second bound volume). Included in a larger set of Volumes 1 - 6, published 1845 to 1847, with another set of volumes from the "New Series" published 1848 to 1850. There are 12 volumes altogether.

Poe's poem, which quickly became one of the most widely known poems in the country,appears on pages 143-145 in Volume I, published under the pseudonym "Quarles." This appearance in the American Reviewis the accepted first edition. Volume I also includes Poe's story "Some Words with a Mummy" and his poems "The Valley of Unrest" and "The City in the Sea". Volume II includes Poe's poem "Eulalie," a review of Poe's Tales, and the short story "Facts of M. Valdemar's Case."

Bound in gorgeousthree-quarter green leather with debossed border patterns, marbled cover boards and endpapers, and title in gilt on spine with raised bands. Dimensions are 9 in h x 6 in w x 2 in d. Condition is good, with rubbing and wear to boards, corners, spine, and edges. Volume 1 (withPoe's "The Raven,") has minor foxing on some pages. New Series Volume X (1849) has front cover separated.
