Description
These pistols were produced from 1857 through 1861. It is estimated that between 750 and 1000 of these -belt sized- 31 caliber revolvers were produced. This is the last variation ca. 1861 established by the side plate design and the addition of a third patent date on the barrel. Functions perfectly, unlike so many surviving examples which are frequently found in poor mechanical condition. 5-inch octagonal barrel. The left side of the barrel is clearly marked in two lines: ALLEN & WHEELOCK. WORCHESTER, MASS. U.S.ALLEN’S PT’S. JAN. 13. DEC. 15. 1857 SEPT. 7. 1858 100% original 100% complete mechanically fine. Good markings. Good grips. Scarce gun from the opening moments of our Civil War.
