In Bernard Baily's "3 Small Men" (ish #1), a trio of diminutive jailbirds try to escape by crawling thru a fetid prison sewer pipe, pre-Shawshank ("The odor tore at their sensitive respiratory tissues! They coughed, felt nausea!"). Predictably, it doesn't go well, and the convicts end up trapped in a leaky, fecal, corpse-infested hell.
