Title: SHOCK SUSPENSTORIES No. 12
Place Published:
Publisher:EC [Indicia: Tiny Tot Comics, Inc.]
Date Published: December-January, 1954
Description:
VG+ (4.5). Slight spine curl, a few spine ticks, bottom spine bumped, miniscule pull to top staple, slim sun shadow to bottom edge of back cover, 1/4" tear to bottom margin of several pages, pencilled distributor's zigzag to the left of the "S" in "SHOCK." Cream pages. Clean and press to 5.5? Al Feldstein cover. Plots and Scripts by Bill Gaines and Al Feldstein. Art by Wally Wood, Jack Kamen, Reed Crandall, Joe Orlando. GPAnalysis: A 4.5 sold for $400 in 9/19.
Feldstein's cover illustrates Joe Orlando's "The Monkey," in which a drug-addled teen quickly progresses from reefers to patricide. The '50's hep-talk will delight students of antiquarian slang ("'ROACH' is 'JIVE-T'...'JOINT'...A REEFER....POT GRASS BUTTS, you square"), and the prices will elicit nostalgic sighs from modern-day jive-T-totalers: "TWO BITS... for ONE LOUSY BUTT?"
