Description
Unique mini medal and ribbon bar set attributed to USN Chaplain Joseph C. Fitzgerald, 11th Marines, Korea as of 14 January 1951 and Acting 1st Marine Division Chaplain until October 1951. He also served in WWII in the Pacific. He was the first chaplain ever to receive the Air medal, and was shot down twice in Korea flying in unarmed aircraft. He was wounded, earned a Bronze Star, etc. We have not found a reference to the Silver Star or the LOM, but have confirmed most of the other medals shown here. The set is clearly period original and unmessed with, so there is more research to be done. The source of this group had done no research on this set and said he bought it over 20 years ago with a verbal attribution to Chaplain Joseph C. Fitzgerald.
