3 1/8" Modern Bannerstone made by Billy Guthrie Ex Knoblock w/ Jackson COA. Byron kept the late Billy Guthrie very busy making Bannerstones and Birdstones back in the mid Century up to the early 1980's. Billy claimed there were modern makers before him making birdstones and bannerstones going back to the late 1800's when there was a heavy demand for the extremely rare items in Europe. There have always been people making things out of rocks. Under magnification this Banner shows modern machining and hand pecking around the holes after it was polished. Probably has more faults (faults which makers in more recent times try to avoid so their work stays closer to how the old native American ones were made). It is a beautiful stone though and displays nicely. Its reported Origin is from the Byron Knoblock Collection but that doesn't guarantee it started at him. Histories are given, forgotten and changed constantly on stone artifacts. Byron had so many of these it is more likely than not the true origin. Modern makers of Bannerstones and collectors in the know agree there may be 1 in 1000 pieces the quality of this one that are actually older than 100 years. Comes with a Jackson COA. Just to be clear we are selling this piece as modern, presuming it is a Billy Guthrie art work based on other pieces we have handled, believing the provenance of ex Byron Knoblock as stated on the paper and adding in a COA that has been following it for the past decade.
