Description
Chinese Antique Embroidery, probably 18th-19th century in date, is an example of Needle-loop embroidery, popularly known as Peking Knot embroidery, is an intricate type of embroidery favored during the Qing dynasty (1636-1912). It required looping the thread around the needle and sewing it into the design. This textile design is symmetrical with bowls of peonies forming the center. Vases with the fragrant flower, "Buddha's Fingers" flank the central motifs. The Bat Motif, symbolic of happiness, is found on the left side of the design. Flowers in vases and bowls of fruit comprise the rest of the design. The brocade mounting and frame probably date to the early 20th century.
