Description
Pastel on paper in very good condition under glass. Beautifully matted and framed. Signed M. B. English lower left. 23.5" x 29.5" overall. About the Artist: Mabel Bacon Plimpton English was a life-long Hartford resident. She studied with William Merritt Chase and Charles Noel Flagg at the Connecticut League of Art Students. She also studied with D.W. Tryon, and C.C. Curran; and at the Shinnecock Art School. She exhibited at the National Academy of Design from 1891 to 1897, the Pennsylvania Academy in 1896-97, and the Art Institute of Chicago in 1907, 1911, and 1913. She was an active member of the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts and the Women Painters and Sculptors of Hartford, where she also exhibited from circa 1910 to 1935 (mainly landscapes). English summered at her second home in Weekapaug, Rhode Island, painting the local landscape.Please note the absence of a condition report does not imply that there are no condition issues with this lot.
