A Chinese famille rose figure of Liu Chan
Republic period
The figure of Liu Chan perched atop of a large rock formation, leaning forward on one knee. Below, the three-legged toad opens its mouth with one raised webbed foot; sold with associated wooden stand.
H: 13, W: 8 1/8, D: 7 1/8 in.
H: 33.02, W: 20.64, D: 20.32 cm.
Provenance: Estate of Yip Hon (1904-1997). Nicknamed Kwai Wong (translated as Ghost King), Yip Hon was a gambling tycoon in South China. He a amassed great wealth in the casinos there, through his technique of listening dice, eventually opening his own casino.

Condition
Rock formation with areas of glaze loss. Two minor chips with overpainting to backside edge of robe. Overpainting to end of sleeve.
