Description
Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Proto-Maya culture, ca. 400 to 250 BCE. A pair of hand-built pottery heads that were part of larger figures at one time. The first head exhibits thick eyelids and a striated coiffure while the second head bears slit-form eyes and a tiered hat. Size of largest: 1.8" W x 2" H (4.6 cm x 5.1 cm); 5.25" H (13.3 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, Illinois, USA, acquired prior to 1970

Condition
Both heads are fragments of larger compositions. Minor abrasions and light earthen deposits, otherwise in very good condition. Nice preservation to finer details. Drilled through bottom of necks for mounting and display purposes.
