AMERICAN SCHOOL (19TH CENTURY) "THE POWER OF MUSIC" GENRE SCENE, a fine example, after William Sidney Mount (1807-1868), depicting an African-American laborer listening just outside a barn door to a man playing the fiddle inside to a small audience, no signature located, retaining a period printed Philadelphia artist supply merchant label applied to stretcher verso. Housed in a modern gilt frame. Mid 19th century. 28 1/2" H, 33" x 40" OA.

Very good overall condition with minor scattered craquelure. Small puncture at right edge. Scattered old minor patches and repairs with associated inpainting. Frame with minor wear.
