STAMPED "S. BELL & SON / STRASBURG", SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed,approximately one-gallon capacity, cylindrical form with squared rim and incised shoulder ring. Brushed manganese dropped feather repeated three times below collar. Together with an English covered sugar featuring a polychrome peafowl/parrot design with blue-sponged decoration. Two pieces total.Jar from the pottery of Samuel Leonard Bell (1811-1891) and/or his sons Richard Franklin, Turner Ashby, and Charles Forrest, Strasburg, VA.19th century.10 1/8" HOA, 6 1/2" D rim.
