Chinese Famille Rose Butterfly Porcelain Double Gourd Vase. Potted in a shape of double gourd resemblance, with two bulbous bellies conjoined together, bulbous lower section finishing into a slender bottleneck at the top, suspending a cylindrical neck, raised on short ring foot base and slightly concave. Hand painted ornamentations are rendered in red color which contrast against famille rose design color, depicted of many butterfly flying over flowers blooms interspersed foliage and scrolling interlocking tendril. Butterfly considered in China as also a bird. Symbol of conjugal bliss, of joy and of summer. From its homophony with the Chinese word die meaning the age of seventy or eighty, it is also an emblem of longevity.The Under-base bears a reign mark, a four under glazed blue script characters reign mark. Made in The Years of Qianlong Reign Period of The Great Qing Dynasty.
