First Nations, Northwestern Canada, Aleut, Yupik, or Inuit, people, ca. mid-20th century CE. A collection of hand-carved soapstone statues from various First Nation artists. The larger black seal with slightly abstracted features is signed on the underside with the disc number, E9906, and Inuktitut initials for the artist Charlie Inukpuk (1941 to present). The other seal is adorably carved with just half the body, as if the animal is emerging from the water or a hole in the ice, the underside is signed with the disc number E91101 and Inuktitut script. The hunter figure is unsigned, he leans forward with a plastic spear in his hand. Size (Inukpuk seal): 6" L x 1.5" W x 3.25" H (15.2 cm x 3.8 cm x 8.3 cm)
Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010

Condition
Stable striations and nicks to Inukpuk seal, otherwise intact. Other seal is intact and disc number is clear on both of seals. The hunter figure is repaired, leg reattached, abrasions and chips to head, body, and arms. Underside of feet have adhesive residue from previous mounting.
