Eli Whitney State of New York Contract Musket,
New Haven, Connecticut, c. 1810-13.
41 15/16 in., .70 caliber round barrel stamped on the top of the breech 'P' in a sunken oval cartouche, and 'SNY' and bayonet lug marked 'K'; flat lock plate stamped 'N.HAVEN' within a scroll below the brass pan, the inside of the lock marked 'L' and 'O' and the parts and screw heads marked with a small 't' or cross-like symbol; walnut stock with 'JN' cartouche on the left side behind the side plate for inspector of arms John Newbury, and a small '5' stamped below the trigger guard; iron furniture of proper form with sling swivels and steel rammer marked 'N' below button head, with threaded end.

Condition
Metal polished bright with areas of fine underlying pitting; lock functions properly, top jaw may be an old replacement or slightly altered at the front; stock has scattered dings and dents and small chips associated with the rear of the middle and lower barrel bands, and a linear gouge on each side of the fore end between the middle and lower bands.
