Description
Theatre marquee bill for Elisha Grays exhibition of the Musical Telegraph” or “Harmonic Telegraph”. Gray would received the patent for his device Feb. 15th, 1876, the following day after both he and Bell filed for the patent of the telephone. On April 2, 1877, Elisha Gray staged a ‘Telephone concert’ at Steinway Hall on East 14th Street in New York. Playing remotely from the Western Union office in Philadelphia, the famous pianist Frederick Boscovitz performed on the 16 note version of the Musical Telegraph. 5 additional performances would be conducted, including this one at Lincoln Hall in Washington DC on the 9th of April,1877.Though it is called a telephone concert, no telephone was actually used. Framed: 10 3/4" x 15".
