Description
A GROUP OF FOUR CHINESE EMBROIDERED SILK RIBBON SKIRT FRAGMENTS, LATE QING DYNASTY (1644-1912), comprising two partial ribbon skirt fragments with thin tapered lappets extending from wide swaths of linen in delightful in shades of vermillion, ocher, green, blue and brown silks, one with flower tendril embroidered ends, and the other example with moth insects, roses, ruyi mushroom form clouds, descending bats with umbrella and lotus flowers with tendrils, height: 36" width:16"; an elaborate example, 1860-1890, double diamond knotted passamenterie fringe hangs from blue ruyi collar forms curling at the ends of gilt couched embroidered dragon over lishui waves emblazoned with flower bloom is issued within a leafy stitched border with arabesque reserves and completed by a European ethnic wave patterned jacquard ribbon on an ocher silk ground, reverse floral silk damask, height: 37 1/2", width: 34"; and a "blue and white" embroidery example, 1804-1860, is hung with double diamond knotted passamenterie fringe from chevron pointed ends, a rock, flower and fluttering moths emerge from lishui waves surrounded by a black silk ground border and French flower jacquard loomed ribbon, the whole centered by tapered lappets embroidered with moth insects, roses, ruyi mushroom form clouds, descending bats with umbrella and lotus flowers with tendrils, reverse lined with ocher flaming endless knot pattern silk damask, height: 39", width: 32".
Condition
